We have a library staffed by our own full-time librarian, Lynda Dunne. Families are invited to check out books from our extensive selection of children's books and books for adults on child development. On the first Wednesday of the month, Mrs. Dunne holds a Storytime for Little Ones, which is a great time for younger siblings or Tuesday/Thursday students to visit the library for a story and songs or activities. Classes visit the library with their teachers (three year-olds monthly and four year-olds weekly).
Children in a three year-old program and older may sign up to stay until 1pm or 2pm for an Extended Day. Students bring a bag lunch to eat outside (weather permitting) and play on the playground. The cost is $10/hour. In addition to this "stay and play," we offer a variety of enrichment classes for older children (in Fours classes and JK). These classes are taught by St. Aidan's teachers on our campus and are a fun and popular day to "extend" your child's day. We have found this longer day helps tremendously with the transition to full-day Kindergarten. Enrichment classes take place during the second hour of Extended Day (1-2pm) for a slight additional fee.
We offer two 4-day sessions of outdoor camp right after the school year ends for four year-olds and older. Camp is 9am -12 each day. We stay outdoors the entire time. Each day begins with a drum circle and ends with outdoor music. Activities might include building and painting giant cardboard boxes, a sensory walk through bins of shaving cream and rice, and painting on sheets with spray bottles of watercolor paint. In other words, lots MORE Music, Movement, and Mess!
At Halloween, we all dress up for a Halloween parade and then sing some of our fall songs for parents and grandparents. At Christmas we have a Christmas concert on the last day before our Christmas break begins, and we celebrate the end of the school year with more happy music. The last concert includes a bittersweet farewell to our children who will be "flying away" to new schools.
